Rome is the capital city of Italy and is Italy’s largest and most populous city. It is located in the central-western portion of the Italian peninsula, on the Tiber river.
From the Roman Empire to the Papacy, Rome has a significant place in the History. During this period that spans over 2,500 years, from the April 21th 753 BC, Rome has a significant place in the classical history as well as in the story of Christianity. The worldwide Roman Catholic Church is administered from the Vatican City, run by the Holy See as an independent enclave and the world’s smallest sovereign state.
Today, Rome is a modern, cosmopolitan city, and on eof the most-visited tourist destination in Europe.
As one of the few major European cities that escaped World War II relatively unscathed, central Rome remains essentially Renaissance and Baroque in character.
Its historic centre is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO .
